Description
Mathematics is considered one of the fundamental sciences upon which various branches of scientific and applied knowledge are built. It plays a pivotal role in developing logical and analytical thinking and in supporting scientific and technological progress. Based on the importance of this science in preparing qualified personnel to contribute to educational and scientific development, this proposal comes forward to establish a Department of Mathematics at the College of Education, serving as a core pillar for preparing specialized teachers and researchers in the field of mathematics.

To serve as a leading academic pillar in mathematics education and instruction, contributing to the preparation of highly qualified teachers and researchers who are capable of creativity and innovation, competitive in local and regional labor markets, and actively engaged in building a knowledge-based society.
Mission
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics seeks to prepare educational cadres who are scientifically, professionally, and research-wise qualified in mathematics and statistics and their applications, through distinguished educational programs that keep pace with cognitive and technological developments, in accordance with quality standards, and that contribute to meeting labor market needs and serving the community.
Goals
The Department of Mathematics seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- To prepare educational cadres who are scientifically and professionally qualified in accordance with quality standards and academic accreditation requirements, and capable of working in the fields of mathematics and statistics and their various applications within general education institutions.
- To develop students’ creative and innovative abilities and train them to apply the scientific method and analytical thinking in addressing and solving problems in a systematic and sound manner.
- To strengthen the integration between the sciences of mathematics and statistics and their practical applications, and to highlight their role in serving society and its educational, industrial, productive, and environmental institutions.
- To employ modern technologies and smart teaching methods, and to provide diverse enrichment approaches in teaching and scientific research, in line with rapid cognitive and technological advancements.
- To encourage scientific research by supporting research programs and promoting active participation in scientific conferences, seminars, training courses, and specialized workshops.
- To document and enhance academic and scientific cooperation between the Department of Mathematics and corresponding departments in Libyan, Arab, and international universities and scientific institutions.
